On February 25th, begins the Mobile World Congress 2019, the biggest ICT event in the world. What to do in Barcelona during the MWC 2019?
The city is full of touristic spots of great interest, but if there is one that stands out above the rest is the Sagrada Familia. The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia is the masterpiece,
still unfinished, of the well-known architect Antoni Gaudí. It is a spectacular Catholic basilica whose construction began in 1883 and is estimated to end over the next few years, if all goes well in 2026. The MWC may be the perfect time to visit this wonder of architecture.
Then, you can go to Paseo de Gracia. This is one of the most popular avenues of the city for its modernist buildings, restaurants and luxury shops. One of the most outstanding constructions is La Pedrera, another Gaudi’s architectural gift to the city. Not far away, on the same boulevard you will find another of its great jewels, the famous Casa Batlló, which has been declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site. An activity that you should not miss is walking among the shops, kiosks and restaurants of the most famous and bustling street in the city: La Rambla. Located in Ciutat Vella, in the heart of Barcelona, you will find la Boquería, the most visited market in the city and one of the nerve cores of the center of Barcelona.
A short distance from here you will find El Liceo. It is the most famous and prestigious theatre in Barcelona, where audiences from all over the world come to enjoy the great operas and shows that are performed. Near La Rambla there are many other touristic spots such as the Plaza Real, the MACBA, the Picasso Museum, the Wax Museum or the Columbus Monument at the end of the street. It is also recommended to visit the Teatro Nacional de Catalunya to witness one of William Shakespeare’s most refined comedies, “Love’s Labour’s Lost”.
Scheduling a couple of hours to visit the Park Güell or the FC Barcelona Stadium, Camp Nou, two of the most important emblems of the city, can also be a great idea. In addition, there are tapas bars with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, such as Cova Fumada or El Vaso de Oro. It is traditional to enjoy a good vermouth and a snack basking in the sun to whet your appetite. Together with the Olympic Village, they have become very popular in recent years as nightlife areas. The Casino of Barcelona is located there, along with prestigious clubs, terraces and discos where you can have a drink and disconnect from the day.
